Helping to Save Babies, One Life at a Time!

The March of Dimes is a charity I've supported for many years. Since 2003, I've been involved with the March of Dimes and March for Babies as both a walker and a team captain. When I lived in Colorado and worked for FirstBank I headed up our corporate team of over 100 walkers who in our best year raised nearly $25,000 to help save babies! It was a great accomplishment and the March of Dimes is a great charity to work with.

Since moving to Baltimore I started my own "family" team, Team Brennbug. This year so far we are 4 members strong and looking for lots more Baltimore area friends, fellow bloggers, and moms to walk with us in support of healthier babies on Saturday, May 14th at Camden Yards at 9am. Together we will walk 4 miles to help raise funds and awareness to help prevent premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality. Click on over to Team Brennbug's page with the March of Dimes to sign up! This is the first year all three of my kids are walking with me and I am so excited.

If you are unable to walk with us on May 14th please consider making a donation to the March of Dimes via my walker page. Any little bit will help!

Over the years the March of Dimes has made great strides in improving the health of babies. Did you know the March of Dimes is the charity behind the cure for polio? Did you also know they helped fund research for surfactant, a life saving drug that is injected into premature babies lungs to help them breath. The March of Dimes has also helped revolutionize NICU care in the U.S. and support for parents of these very sick babies. I can't wait to see what breakthrough is next for the March of Dimes!

Thank you for your support!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

What a busy time this is for our family with all the transition going on, new job for hubby, leaving my job here in Maryland, moving across the country, buying our 1st house. It is all a bit overwhelming but the time is passing quickly!

Last week the kids spent their spring break with my dad and his wife in North Carolina, while I flew back to Colorado to house hunt. Trying to find your "forever" home and make the biggest purchase of your life in 3 days, mostly from across the country is CRAZY! But all is well that ends well and I am happy to say we are under contract on house that really seems to be perfect for our family, more space than we thought we could afford, great neighborhood, close to hubby's work, great schools, really nice house. Hubby and I are both feeling extremely blessed right now!

We had our inspection on the home yesterday and that went smoothly, appraisal should be done by next week, and hopefully it will be relatively smooth sailing until our mid-June closing. The kids will get to finish up their school year here and our new house will be waiting for us when we leave Maryland.

I still need to hire movers but have received quotes from three companies, just waiting for the last company to give me a quote next week. The task of packing up the entire house single-handedly won't be easy but at least we have movers this time, a luxury we could not afford when we moved out here 2 years ago.

Besides all the changes going on my life, the next few months promise to be busy with Wynter's softball, my kickball, and our stepfamily group at church, as well as lots of special occasions, such as Brennan's birthday, Phoenix's dance recital, March for Babies (I'll be posting more on that later this week), our going away party/Memorial Day BBQ, hubby and my anniversary, and that is just the first few weeks of May. Things probably won't settle down at my house until late July but we are really looking forward to all the changes coming our way.

This Is Your Life!

By Switchfoot

The DC area Christian radio station I listen to has been playing this song the last few months and the lyrics are quite powerful. Searching around the internet I found out a music video was never released but this YouTube video with the music playing and the lyrics on screen is great because it forces you to truly think about what is being said. Isn't it amazing how music can move your soul?

The Sweet Sound of Music

I'll be the first to admit that while I was excited that my oldest was going to play the drums this year in band, I was not excited about the cost involved in renting him an instrument. He never practices at home unless I force him to and once I realized I had literally wasted $150 renting a silly drum I could've bought from Craigslist for $80 I was a little over the whole thing.

He says he likes playing the drum and wants to continue playing. I just don't see the practice, commitment, or follow-through I was hoping for.

Last night was the middle school, elementary school side by side concert where the 5th grade band students get to play a concert with the middle school band students. The middle school music teachers also feature exceptional middle school students in solo and trio performances. It truly was music to my ears! I reminded me how much I love live music. To get to hear a full orchestra and a full band play was a real treat and it is truly amazing how talented some of these middle school musicians really are.

Needless to say, mommy received a little attitude adjustment and I am once again thankful for the outstanding music program Baltimore County public schools has in place at the elementary level and beyond.

Without further ado, here is Brennan playing with the middle school band. He is a percussionist and is in the back right frame of the video. Hard to pick him out but the music is still great to hear, enjoy!
