If the World was a Playground

What would the world be like if it was as simple as it was in elementary school to get along? We would have a whole lot less problems and the minor problems that came up would be resolved immediately.

My kids started their new elementary school yesterday and it went remarkably well! B and Wyn each made a "best friend" (their words, how adorable) and FiFi made two "best friends." They were excited, liked their teachers, and happy to have made new best friends. I have so far been pleased with their school and think it will be a great fit for all of us.

Don't you wish it was that simple as an adult or in the world at large? You could make a best friend in one day and everyone was excited to see you and be your friends. What a better world we would have. This is one of the lessons we should take from our children. Making friends, being a friend, and generally getting along seems so much easier to children then it does adults. Maybe we should give up all the complicatedness and busyness of our adult lives and just try to get along and make "best friends."

Oh, I knew they would be okay! What sweethearts. I do wish adult life could be more like that. It seems like the older I get the harder it is to make and keep new friends.

I love this post. I see it at the elementary school where I work. I'd never go back, but it's fun to think about these things knowing what we know now!

Gah!! I miss you. But I am glad to know that things are going well so far with the kids. I know so many people that fret about them in regards to moving or new schools, but we don't give them enough credit. Kids are a lot more adaptable to situations than we are. Yay for BFFs!!

I love you girl!

Oh that is sweet! It was a lot simpler when we were carefree kids! :0)

It was carefree and simple for some of us. I remember now how badly the uncool kids were treated.

I am so painfully shy that the only close friends I have are the same ones I`ve had since I was 5! haha I would love to be able to just march up to someone and become best friends hehe

I think too many adults try so hard to "out do" everybody else (bigger house, better car...really who cares?) they can't just sit back and enjoy life like the children do.

Happy SITS Day!

I do wish it were that simple. Instead, we're grown ups acting like high schoolers! (From SITS)

Oh yes, life would be lovely if it were that simple.

Agreed. Everyone is so caught up in their own little schedule, no one takes the opportunity to meet new people. It's a shame, but I do what i can. I smile at everyone i come across in a day and i have been working hard in my new neighborhood to get the neighbors to intermingle. Everyone just stayed in their own fenced in backyards until we came along. ;)

What a sweet story. I do wish life was like it was when we were kids. Making friends was so much easier, at least in elementary school. Not middle school. Could you imagine? Yuck!
But the little ones, who can make friends with another kid just because they're both kids. Wouldn't that be so nice as an adult?

Happy Sits day!

I wish that every time I watch my 7 y/o make friends, play on the playground, and go about her kid stuff.

Then she pulls something with "she's this far away from NOT being my friend!" (arms about two feet apart...) and I realize there's still complications, just not as many as adults have.

Kids are so fun to watch!

Yes it would be so much easier! Best friends in an instant, play time, simple pleasures. I guess that is part of why we have kids, to remind us of those things.

Happy SITS day!

I LOVE how simple friendship was back when you were young. "Kelly shared her peanut butter sandwich so she is my new best friend." Kids totally have it figured out.

You are SO right! Kids make friends so easily...They don't judge as harshly as adults do. I'm truly jealous of the innocence we lose as we grow up.

This is absolutely spot on. My four-year-old comes home with new friends every day and I teach him how to brush it off when his friend of yesterday decides he's not playing today. Life goes on.

That's a lesson I need to remind myself of everyday. Thanks for posting and congrats on your SITS day yesterday!
